About our client: our client is a successful NYC VC firm that builds and invests in companies hands-on, from the ground up across Saas technology, Retail, and more.
About the role: They are looking for an experienced Financial Controller, to undertake all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures. You will also be responsible for bookkeeping including processing accounts payable and receivable and managing invoices and tax payments. This high-impact role will span the entire portfolio of entities and you’ll have the opportunity to influence business strategies while also accurately recording all day-to-day financial transactions of the company.
Responsibilities for the Controller:
- Manage all accounting operations for all portfolio entities including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition
- Coordinate and prepare budget and financial forecasts and report variances as needed
- Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements for all portfolio entities
- Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting for all portfolio entities
- Support month-end and year-end close process for all portfolio entities
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
- Maintain and verify records of day to day financial transactions and complete the posting process
- Process accounts receivable/payable and handle payroll in a timely manner
- Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Additional controller and bookkeeping duties as necessary
Ideal Qualifications for the Controller:
- Proven working experience as a Financial Controller and Bookkeeper preferably in retail and even B2B SaaS (a plus)
- 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
- Entrepreneurial mindset with an ability to anticipate needs, apply quick analytical thinking and problem-solve creatively; startup experience strongly preferred
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable/receivable principles
- Extensive experience with creating financial statements
- Extensive experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Excellent accounting software user and administration skills; Quickbooks experience required
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and a positive can-do attitude
- BS degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration
- CPA or CMA preferred
